Recent seminar on ministry with Conrad Mbewe
Our mission statement reads "Bethesda Baptist Church exists to reflect God's glory and delight in Him by extolling the name of Christ Jesus, equipping His people, and proclaiming to all His saving grace." So, what exactly does this look like?
On February 13th, we had the privilege of ministering to men in our area who are engaged in or preparing for pastoral ministry. By doing this, we had the privilege ourselves of being ministered to by the teaching and preaching work of Conrad Mbewe - Pastor of Kabwata Baptist Church in Lusaka, Zambia.
Pastor Mbewe led a seminar on ministry which focused on the functions and marks of the church. He compared the current state of the church with the biblical description of the church by using the metaphor of a bus on one side, and a body on the other.
His exhortation was to operate not as people paying their fare, sitting in the back of a bus doing nothing while the driver (a.k.a. the church leader) does all the work. We are to function as a body, each using one's gift so that the body may grow in love for the good of the kingdom and the glory of God.
